The United States gave up. Now Germany will get Russian gas straight from the source.

Nord Stream 2 could give Russia too much power over Europe, critics fear.

Germany and the United States have agreed on a “constructive solution” for the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas was finally able to tweet on Wednesday night.

The giant project will send Russian gas directly to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Many countries have been skeptical. In 2019, the United States sat on its hind legs and introduced sanctions against companies involved in construction.
