The US lead goal just over eight minutes into the first period was a real invitation from Darcy Kuemper. The Canadian goalkeeper tossed the puck behind his own box and after an opposing player snatched the puck from Kuemper, it ended up with Jason Robertson who pushed in the lead goal for the white-clad.
– A goalkeeper board on the first goal. It’s a bit of arrogance, which costs money, says SVT Sports expert Nisse Ekman.
The United States then got a taste start in the second period.
Canada has had a difficult start
Adam Clendening put 2-0 already after 01.19 and then Los Angeles forward Trevor Moore filled in power play two minutes later.
It was a 5-1 victory for the USA, which took the championship’s first victory after losing its premiere against Finland.
For Canada, it has started hard. In the premiere, it was a resounding loss against Latvia and after tonight’s 1-5, they are still at zero points.
Switzerland took second straight
Denmark beat Sweden on Saturday but could not follow up that success against Switzerland.
Alplandet dominated big, winning the shots with a crushing 30-4, but only managed to score one goal on a big-playing Sebastian Dahm, the Danish goalkeeper. Timo Meier scored the only goal of the match already after 13.12.
Switzerland has won its first two matches in the tournament and will meet Sweden in its next match on Tuesday.
