Semiconductor manufacturers such as Yangtze Memory Technologies (YMTC) and Hefei Core Storage Electronic are particularly hard hit. The US Department of Commerce announced it on Thursday. This is intended to counter China’s efforts to obtain “advanced technologies for military modernization and human rights violations”.
Companies involved in the production of weapons
According to the United States, 21 of the 36 companies have close ties to the Chinese defense sector. This, for example, through the production of chips for artificial intelligence.
Seven are therefore involved in the development of hypersonic missiles and ballistic missiles. One company has been linked to crackdowns against the Uyghur Muslim minority in China’s Xinjiang region.
