The United States said on Monday that it did not believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin had already made a “final decision” on whether to invade Ukraine, but that he could act “without warning.”
Pentagon spokesman John Curby also told reporters that US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin plans to travel to Europe on Tuesday to meet at NATO headquarters in Brussels and visit Poland and Lithuania.
“We still do not believe that a final decision has been made,” Curby said of Russia’s possible invasion of Ukraine.
“Warfare can happen any day,” he added. “It is quite possible that he (Putin) could act as well or without any warning.”
State Department spokesman Ned Praiss said the United States had not seen “any tangible sign of de-escalation” at the Russia-Ukraine border.
“We believe that diplomacy continues to be viable,” said Price.
“We believe that there is still a window for a solution through dialogue and diplomacy.”
Curby said China’s “tacit support for (..) Russia is deeply worrying and even more destabilizing for the security situation in Europe”.
