MERIBEL, France — The United States beat defending champion Norway 3-2 in the final to win the team event at the world alpine skiing championships on Tuesday.
Tommy Ford won the final, decisive race when Timon Haugan got stuck at the start. The score was 2-2 after Paula Moltzan and Thea Louise Stjernesund finished tied in the penultimate set.
Nina O’Brien won the first leg of the final against Kristin Lysdahl before Norway’s Alexander Steen Olsen narrowly edged River Radamus.
Mikaela Shiffrin did not participate in the event.
Canada beat Austria for the bronze medal.
The event featured teams of two men and two women with four runs of parallel racing each lap.
The United States finished fourth in the team event at the Beijing Olympics last year.
