The United States and the European Commission are now clearly positioning themselves together to reduce Europe’s dependence on Russian energy. In a statement issued following Joe Biden’s visit to Brussels, the US President and his EU allies issued the following statement: “We share the goal of responding to the energy security emergency – securing energy supplies to the EU and Ukraine. We welcome the steady progress made towards Ukraine’s physical integration into EU energy markets. The energy security and sustainability of the EU and Ukraine is essential for peace, freedom and democracy in Europe.”
