Washington, Apr 14 (EFE) .- The United States reached 31,417,160 confirmed cases of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus this Wednesday and 564,280 deaths from the covid-19 disease, according to the independent count from Johns Hopkins University.
This balance at 20.00 local time (00.00 GMT on Thursday) is 859 more deaths than on Tuesday and 73,601 new infections.
California is now the worst hit state by the pandemic with 60,632 deaths, followed by New York (51,350), Texas (49,358), Florida (34,164), Pennsylvania (25,502), New Jersey (25,006) and Illinois (23,865).
Other states with a large number of deaths are Georgia (19,600), Ohio (18,917), Michigan (17,694), Massachusetts (17,427) or Arizona (17,109).
In terms of infections, California has 3,707,770, followed by Texas with 2,840,817, third is Florida with 2,141,686, New York is fourth with 1,973,308 and Illinois is fifth with 1,288,844.
The provisional death toll -564,280- far exceeds the lower limit of the initial estimates of the White House, which in the days of Donald Trump projected in the best of cases between 100,000 and 240,000 deaths due to the pandemic.
US President Joe Biden has predicted that a total of more than 600,000 people in the country will die from the virus.
