The United Nations flag flies at the main door of the Mérida City Hall

Today, October 24, the United Nations flag flies at the main door of the Mérida City Hall as requested by the Association for the United Nations in Spain on the occasion of United Nations Day, which is celebrated on October 24 and this year commemorates its 76th anniversary.

The Association for the United Nations in Spain (ANUE) is a state-level non-governmental organization created in 1962 to promote the principles and objectives of the United Nations and support its programs. The date marks the anniversary of the entry into force of the United Nations Charter, the institution’s founding document.

United Nations Day provides an annual opportunity not only to recognize the work of the Organization but also to reflect on what we can and should do for peace, development and human rights.

It was proclaimed in an Assembly held by the UN Security Council, and as a way to commemorate and celebrate the anniversary of the United Nations Charter. This resolution was signed unanimously by all member countries.
