The United Kingdom has refused to vaccinate children under the age of 15 against COVID-19

The benefits in this age group are too small compared to the risks for healthy children, experts say

British experts in the commission that monitors vaccination in the United Kingdom announced that they refuse to immunize children aged 12 to 15 against coronavirus. It is about teenagers who are in good health, reports “AFP”.

The decision contradicts that of the health authorities of a number of Western countries, which have allowed the vaccination of children in this group.

“Evidence available shows that the individual health benefits of vaccination against COVID-19 are weak in people between the ages of 12 and 15 who do not have visible health problems that put them at risk of severe COVID-19.” , explains the Joint Commission on Vaccination and Immunization.

“The potential risks associated with vaccination are also low and are still being described,” the commission said. For all these reasons, she believes that the benefits of vaccination are too small compared to the health risks of children between 12 and 15 years of age in good health and therefore does not rule on mass vaccination in this age group. However, the Commission recommends that the authorities consult other experts.

Following her statement, Health Minister Sajid Javid said she would seek the views of the health authorities of the four nations that make up the United Kingdom before taking a quick decision on the matter.

In the country, children over the age of 12 who have health problems and thus become vulnerable to COVID-19 have been able to receive vaccines against the virus for some time. And as of today, vaccination covers other children at risk, such as those with type 1 diabetes or children with sickle cell disease.

For all children aged 16-17 years is allowed since August can be vaccinated against coronavirus.
