The United Arab Emirates called for an immediate and permanent cease-fire in Sudan, and work to find a peaceful solution and a return to the political track, stressing the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts to end the crisis.
In a statement delivered by Amira Al-Hafiti, the country’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, before the UN Security Council yesterday, the UAE called for the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to end the crisis in Sudan, saying: “This meeting of ours comes after more than 100 days have passed since the outbreak of clashes in Sudan.” Many innocent people were killed, and the Sudanese people suffered the most because of it, as the briefers explained, which requires intensifying diplomatic efforts to end this crisis in all its dimensions.
Amira Al-Hafeti stressed the need to work to alleviate the difficult humanitarian conditions experienced by millions of Sudanese as a result of the continuing clashes, and non-compliance with previous truces.
She said, “In this context, we see the necessity of securing food supplies, water and medical services, as nearly half of the people suffer from high levels of food insecurity. Attention must also be given to the needs of the displaced and refugees in light of their sharply high rates, while facing Some of the neighboring countries have internal challenges.
And she appealed to the international community to provide support to Sudan and neighboring countries during this difficult period, given the level of needs on the ground, and the failure of the United Nations and its humanitarian partners to receive the required funding for this year.
She said: “Within the framework of our humanitarian solidarity with the brotherly Sudanese people, the UAE has been keen to provide them with urgent relief aid, as my country recently operated an air and sea bridge, transporting more than two thousand tons of medical and food supplies to both Port Sudan and the Republic of Chad, in support of the brotherly Sudanese refugees.” We also established a field hospital in Chad, and opened a coordination office for Emirati aid to support and coordinate humanitarian efforts, and we will continue our support in this aspect.
Amira Al-Hafeti stressed the importance of the parties’ commitment to international humanitarian law, including the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, as well as facilitating unimpeded and safe access for humanitarian workers and supplies to those in need.
And I reiterated the call for the importance of fully implementing the commitments reached in Jeddah.
In this context, it condemned the killing of a number of humanitarian workers in Sudan, expressing the state’s concern about reports of attacks on them, and the looting and theft of humanitarian facilities.
She said, “We have to remember that after 10 days from today, that is, on the 19th of this month, we will celebrate the World Humanitarian Day, which is an occasion to pay tribute to workers in the humanitarian and relief fields, and to do everything in our power to protect them and protect the important work that they carry out.”

She said, “Within the framework of the UAE’s keenness on regional and international cooperation to resolve pressing issues, my country participated in the first meeting of the Quartet of IGAD last month,” stressing the need to intensify the momentum and coordinate all these efforts closely.
At the conclusion of the statement, the UAE affirmed its continued solidarity with the brotherly Sudanese people during these difficult circumstances, including by supporting all efforts to end the crisis.
