The Unique Humor and Character of Latvians: Insights from Maksims Galkins

Jauns.lv already reported that in the same interview Maksims Galkins discussed how difficult it is to learn the Latvian language. Now the showman has answered the presenter’s question, what makes Latvians special.

“It’s a wonderful northern sense of humor. The way Latvians can joke without changing their facial expressions – it’s absolutely wonderful. It’s exactly a characteristic of Latvians,” Maksims shared his observations.

After that, he added that the Latvian character, which he observes in different Latvians, did not develop in the same way.

“It came about because of historical reasons, because of the most difficult history of Latvia in the 20th century – the occupation. The nation endured so much, just endured… I don’t know, maybe Latvians weren’t like that at all 100 years ago, but they became like that,” Galkin believes.
