The Management Board of the Union of Former Berets (SBB) learned with pain, anger and indignation about the brutal murder of our colleague Alexey Petrov. The organization, whose co-founder is Petrov, came out with such a position on Thursday. His colleagues say he is a role model.
This is what the SBB administration says:
“In addition to being a long-time employee of the Special Counter-Terrorism Squad (SCT), he is also one of the founders of the Union of Former Berets. His professional biography as an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is an example of role model for all his colleagues who have chosen to devote themselves to the protection of the security of Bulgarian citizens against one of the most dangerous forms of criminal aggression – terrorism.
Already after graduating from SVU “F. Dzerzhinsky” in Pazardzhik in 1981, Aleksey Petrov joined the Special Squad for Combating Terrorism as a commando. During his 10-year service, he successively held various positions and rose to the rank of group commander. In his work at SOBT, Alexey Petrov stands out as a leader with proven qualities and skills. He led complex and responsible specialized operations and was awarded many times during his service.
Alexey Petrov also has a successful sports career. He is a several-time republican karate champion, coach and later President of the Bulgarian National Karate Federation. Under his leadership of the Federation, Bulgarian karate achieved its greatest successes in history, including Olympic gold. Many children and youth have been inspired to devote themselves to this sport, which forms responsibility, consistency, self-denial, sportsmanship and discipline – qualities so important for a successful society.
As one of the founders of the Union of former berets, Alexey Petrov actively worked to raise the authority and influence of the SBB as an organization and support for the employees of the SBB after their period of active service. He has repeatedly supported morally, materially and in any other way the former employees of SOBT and their families, always being dedicated and empathetic to their problems. Alexey will forever remain in our hearts as one of us – an example worthy of emulation”.
