that 29 lap GP

There are 29 laps covered in the only edition of the Austrian GP suspended before having completed the entire distance foreseen. It was 1975 and the winner was the oldest driver on the track, Vittorio Brambilla – 37 years old – with the March. The Italian, who started eighth, demonstrated his driving skills in the wet by moving up the group and taking the lead on lap 19, taking advantage of James Hunt’s indecision, while the rain rapidly increased in intensity. In lap 29 the conditions forced the race direction to suspend the race which was however interrupted with the checkered flag which sanctioned its conclusion. After the finish line, Brambilla lost control of his car and ended up against the barriers damaging the nose of the single-seater but by now the victory was acquired. Vittorio, brother of Tino, one of Enzo Ferrari’s most esteemed test drivers, brought the Italian flag back to the top step of the podium after the 1966 Italian GP, when Ludovico Scarfiotti with Ferrari had won. It was his only victory in Formula 1.
