Sources for the news agency Reuters say that the tunnels under Gaza can be several hundred kilometers long, and up to 80 meters deep.
The 85-year-old hostage, who was released a few days ago, Yocheved Lifshitz describes that she walked for several kilometers underground.
– It looked like a spider’s web with many, many tunnels, she says.
Israeli security sources tell Reuters that the bombing of Gaza has had little effect on the Hamas tunnel system.
– There is a whole city under Gaza with bunkers, headquarters and warehouses. They are linked to more than a thousand rocket positions, says Amir Aviva, a former Israeli general to Reuters.
According to other security sources, there are still tunnels through which Hamas can smuggle in goods from, among other places, Egypt.
