The Unconventional Success of ‘Aída’ in Spanish Television and Melani Olivares’ Reflections on her Character

If we talk about long-running and successful series on television in Spain, we must also talk about ‘Aída’. A series with an unconventional plot, as well as its characters, but which the audience fell in love with between 2005 and 2014. A production with a great cast, with actors and actresses like Melani Olivares.

The actress has given an interview to the podcast ‘The Objective’, where he has spoken about different issues, such as the Spanish series and his character as Paz Bermejo. A series that she doubts can be made, or at least in that style, today: “It couldn’t be done now, I think. Because we are becoming more and more backward and much more judicious with everything. I am convinced”.

A series focused on pure comedy, but that today might not have the same reception as it did then: “I don’t know if it could or not, but of course what happened with that series, which was a phenomenon, which I watched from Lavapiés and San Blas to the Moraleja and everything were united by these characters who were losers and were so funny and who were all identified with a prototype of a person, because it really couldn’t be done now.

Afterwards, the actress wanted to focus on her own role, that of Paz: “It is true that I played a character who was a vase and I spent a long time serving jokes. I didn’t know how to finish them either, so I better learn and for me that was also a brutal school because then I didn’t miss a single one.”

An experience that the performer remembers fondly, pointing out that “it was a comedy that you record with an audience and it is doing a theater performance every week,” which turned the series into “an incredible school,” where she was also surrounded by “ “the best comedy there is.”
