The 2024 Japan Cup marked the last competitive appearance of Fabio Felline for this season. However, for the Piedmontese cyclist, who has reached 34 years of age, it is not yet clear whether this race also represents his definitive farewell to the world of professional cycling. Currently expiring his contract with Lidl-Trek, Felline has not yet made a final decision on his future in cycling.

Felline had returned to the US licensed team earlier this season, after concluding his stint with Astana Qazaqstan. During the year, he participated in 49 racing days, making a significant contribution to the team, although he failed to achieve any notable results on an individual level. This period of reflection seems to have led him to consider new possibilities outside of cycling.
On his Instagram profile, Felline shared his thoughts and uncertainties regarding the future: “I don’t know yet if this will be my last season. In the next few weeks I will have a definitive picture and the possibility to make a decision about my future. In the meantime, I began to metabolize the possibility that, just as everything has a beginning, it also has an end, and off the bike there are projects and ideas waiting for me. I honestly believe there are moments in life for which you are never quite ready, any sudden change creates effects or emotions that take time and training to metabolise.”
These words suggest that Felline is already looking beyond cycling, reflecting on how pedals have dominated his life: “Out of 34 years of life, for 25 the bike involved me at 360 degrees, first as a dreamy child, then as an ambitious boy and finally an athlete who made it his profession for 15 years.”
Felline wanted to express his gratitude towards Lidl-Trek and his teammates: “I want to thank Lidl-Trek and all my teammates with whom I shared victories and efforts.” This thank you highlights the bond and affection he has developed throughout his career.
Despite the uncertainty about his future, Felline confirmed that this year “La Fellinata”, the annual event that allowed him to say goodbye to his fans and friends, will not be held. However, he promised that the occasion is only postponed, as he wants to have clear ideas before organizing it. This event represents for him a special moment of connection with those who have supported him over the years.
