They didn’t even dare to dream about them.
Since November, Russians have been overwhelmed by the pre-holiday bustle: they need to choose gifts for loved ones. More attention is usually paid to buying gifts for children. Moreover, now the range of stores offers a huge selection of goods.
But during the years of the USSR it was necessary to adapt to the existing deficit. Even then there were New Year’s gifts that children did not even dare to dream about. After all, they cost a fortune and were available only to the heirs of elite families. And modern kids wouldn’t even pay attention to most of these things.
So, Soviet boys wanted to find a railway from the GDR under the Christmas tree. It was made as accurately as possible and had trains, carriages and semaphores. Collectors are still hunting for them.
Another desirable item was a set of toy soldiers. Those that were produced in the GDR, as well as at the Donetsk factory, were especially valued. Now these small single figures are offered up to 10 thousand rubles.
But girls dreamed of expensive dolls with moving eyes, different outfits and removable shoes. Schoolchildren from middle and high schools wished for a watch – a men’s “Flight” or a women’s “Seagull.” And some hoped to receive a slide projector or music box from their parents.
