The UN has warned that the conflict in Sudan, which has already claimed thousands of lives and displaced 7 million people in a matter of months, is spreading to new regions. Asharq Al-Awsat reports this.
The world organization noted that the crisis in Sudan has led to inter-ethnic violence and attacks on women.
UN Assistant Secretary-General for Africa, Ghanaian diplomat Marta Ama Akya Pobee expressed concern about the worsening crisis in Sudan:
“Sudan faces the risk of a deteriorating humanitarian situation and a catastrophic human rights crisis.”
At the same time, the number of victims and the regions of conflict are increasing:
“The fighting has expanded to new areas – Gezira, White Nile and Western Kordofan, putting civilians at risk.”
