The UN will restore its presence in Kyiv after the temporary relocation of key personnel. A spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, Stefan Dujarric, said at a briefing, commenting on the results of a visit to Moscow by UN Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths.
He stressed that the Ukrainian authorities “welcome this decision”.
According to Dujarric, the UN hopes to continue the negotiation process between Russia and Ukraine.
“We hope that the parties will continue to negotiate in good faith. We also hope that an agreement on humanitarian pauses will be reached immediately or in the foreseeable future,” he said.
Dujarric emphasized that this was necessary in order to deliver humanitarian aid to “thousands in need”.
Earlier, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths said at a meeting in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that he thought it was possible to announce humanitarian pauses in some regions of Ukraine. According to him, such breaks can be organized in particular north of Kyiv, in Chernihiv and Kherson.
