More than a million people in southern Madagascar are desperate to survive in the first-ever famine caused by global climate change. It is reported by UN.

It is noted that Madagascar has been severely affected by a multi-year drought.

According to the representative of the World Food Program Alice Rahmun, in some areas people can still grow something, but every year more and more difficulties have to be overcome. But in other places, absolutely nothing grows now, and people try to survive by feeding on locusts, fruits and cactus leaves.

The World Food Program is working with the government of the country, as a result of which about 700 thousand people receive food aid.

As previously reported, in 2020 in the world hunger affected about 811 million people, which is 161 million more than in 2019.
