The UMU, the only Spanish institution that participates in the European project MuSIC – Cartagena News

La UMU, the only Spanish institution that participates in the European project MuSIC

The University of Murcia (UMU) pawill participate in MuSICa project of the Marie Shares Sklodowska-Curie of Horizon Europe that seeks collaboration between European entities to train young researchers on how to increase the resilience of edbuildings against climate change.

The initiative MuSIC (Multi-sensorysolutions for increasing human-buildingresilience in facing of climate change) has been a winnera in the call for projects doctoral training networks. Thanks to this project, the UMU, the only associated Spanish institution, will collaborate with a consortium of various European organizations with the aim of training ten young researchers to adapt the buildings as much as possible tol climate change. This challenge is faced by carrying out a study on the existing European building stock and the innovative possibilities that researchers can offer.

The need to train the new generations to create hlivable and sustainable in cities is given by the limitations of current construction techniques, which have a great environmental impact as well as lack robustness and predictability. For this, training modules will be carried outinterdisciplinary and intersectoral courses for the recruited researchers that will allow them to create individual projects of sustainable management systems for spaces applying cutting-edge solutions.

Who is it for?

The beneficiaries of this iinitiative will be ten researchers. Access for those interested will be through a public contest and will be complemented by a subsequent selection process.

During this project, those recruited will carry out their doctorate rotating through the different universities.participating entities and organizations to learn las concrete methodologies that will be provided. In this way, they will also adapt to working in different teams “to improve their objectivity and their personal judgment of the problems at hand.”ontar”, he explains the UMU professor Alfonso Ramallocoordinator of the project and principal investigator of the same.

Contribution of UMU to the project

Alfonso Ramallo, belonging to the DDepartment of Information Engineeringtion and Communications, contributeto his knowledge on thermodynamic modeling of the effect of heat waves on buildings.

Ramallo’s previous studies will allown the recruits know how the thermal inertia (property of the constructions to maintain the temperature) of the buildings influences their thermal comfort. “I have perfected building models that allow us to estimate what the effect of weather conditions is going to be on a multitude of buildings very quickly and accurately,” he explains. “These models couldThey will be associated with the advanced models of comfort that other researchers will develop and thus be able to have a comprehensive vision of the phenomena that occur in the spaces.dificios”, adds the researcher.
