The UMU signs an agreement with the AMIGA Association to collaborate in the project ‘Breast cancer and physical activity’

MURCIA, 8 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The ‘Hermenegildo Lumeras’ room of the Espinardo Campus of the University of Murcia (UMU) hosted this Friday the signing of an agreement between the teaching institution and the Murcian Association for Helping Women with Breast Cancer (AMIGA) for collaboration in the ‘Breast cancer and physical activity’ project.

The agreement has been signed by the rector, José Luján, and the president of the Amiga Association, Catalina Ana Martínez, according to UMU sources in a statement.

The agreement highlights the importance “of physical exercise to improve the physical and mental capacity, as well as the quality of life of patients with breast cancer, providing a better prognosis of the disease to people who are undergoing treatment”.

By virtue of this, it allows the development of a health program aimed at improving the quality of life and increasing the survival of women with breast cancer, also contributing to the training of UMU students through this experience. , with benefits that have already been proven throughout the accumulated experience.

As a result of the agreement, the UMU will carry out a medical examination adapted to this need that includes an electrocardiogram, echocardiography and cycle ergometry, as well as an assessment and planning of physical activity that includes various controls and assessments.

Martínez stressed that the physical exercise promoted by this agreement “improves the prognosis and quality of life of patients, which is why it is so important that they incorporate physical activity into their daily routine.”

Thus, he expressed his gratitude to the University for “this renewal of mutual trust that the signing of this agreement implies”.

For his part, Luján has stated that this agreement ratifies that the UMU “continues to be linked to the AMIGA Association, renewing an agreement that already existed, where the value of practicing sport to cope with the disease and overcome it is manifested.”

Addressing the representatives of the AMIGA Association, the rector added that “you already know that you have the hand of the University of Murcia outstretched to collaborate with you in everything that is in our power”, while congratulating the Activities Service Sports for their work.
