The threat is to sever diplomatic relations
At 12:00 p.m., the ultimatum that Russian ambassador Eleonora Mitrofanova issued to our country expired. Mitrofanova went to a meeting with our Foreign Minister Teodora Genchovska at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Russian ambassador threatened that if the government does not reverse its decision to expel 70 diplomats and employees of the Russian embassy in our country, she will contact President Putin and propose breaking off diplomatic relations. Already last night, Teodora Genchovska said that the note was sent to the prime minister and she is waiting for instructions at the MFA.

“We set the condition and we expect a response from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by 12 o’clock on Friday. If no answer follows, or if it is negative, I will raise the issue of closing the embassy with the President of the Russian Federation. This will mean a break in diplomatic relations, which is extremely undesirable and absolutely harmful to our long and very warm relations”, stated Mitrofanova.
And people have gathered in front of the Russian embassy in support of Russia. One of them is Rumen Petkov. “This is the result of a series of insane actions on our part. If there is common sense on our part, the entry into force of the two notes can be postponed and a decision that meets the Bulgarian national interest can be reached,” he pointed out.
