NEW YORK — New Yorkers will now have a new option to receive their package deliveries safely and without the fear of them being stolen.
New York City launched a free program Wednesday that will install lockers on public sidewalks for residents to receive package deliveries.
The pilot program known as LockerNYC includes seven units, each capable of securely holding 25 packages at a time, and has the potential to expand further this year. The pilot is open to the public and the LockerNYC program will be available across multiple delivery providers.
The New Yorkers can register for free and manage orders online here. The pilot will be implemented for one year, with the potential to be extended following evaluation, allowing DOT to test and evaluate the technology and delivery model.
“We are tackling porch pirates and reducing emissions by rolling out LockerNYC, our pilot program that will combat package theft and reduce delivery truck traffic in our city,” said Mayor Adams. “Reducing crime, fighting climate change, and providing comfort to New Yorkers all at the same time is a package New Yorkers can be proud of. “This is part of our broader efforts to reimagine how New Yorkers get their goods and services, including through our upcoming Sustainable Delivery Department announced in this year’s State of the City.”
Statistics show that 80% of households in the city receive at least one delivery per week and 20% receive four or more deliveries and, every day, 90,000 packages are reported stolen or lost in transit in the city, as many buildings lack secure areas for package delivery. The LockerNYC pilot includes seven units, each capable of securely holding 25 packages at a time, and has the potential to expand further this year.
In addition to providing convenience to New Yorkers, the LockerNYC pilot program also aims to reduce delivery truck traffic by consolidating deliveries to central locations.

How do I place the order so that it arrives at the locker?
How the locations where the program will operate were chosen
Locations were selected based on land use, the concentration of buildings that lacked mail or package rooms, and package theft data from the New York City Police Department, among other criteria. Other priorities in the selection process included providing adequate circulation space, avoiding conflicts with street furniture, ensuring smooth pedestrian flow, and avoiding obstruction of windows, fire escapes or public art. Each locker is visibly equipped with two security cameras, LED lighting and anti-theft mechanisms in the locker compartments.
