We will have the opportunity to enjoy a unique view of the sky illuminated by a full moon this year for the last time on December 27. In the winter months, the full moon also rises high above the horizon. The December Full Moon, also known as the Cold Full Moon or the Long Nights Full Moon, will occur on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 1:32 a.m. CET.

It is a full moon in the sign of Cancer, and its magical atmosphere will be enhanced by the Christmas holidays and the arrival of the New Year. People born under Cancer, as a water sign, are very sensitive and empathetic people. Therefore, they should not be subject to negative emotions and enjoy rest and holidays in peace and in the presence of loved ones and friends. Rest, relax and don’t solve any problems.

Sensitive people can feel the special energy associated with the full moon as early as three days before and after the full moon.

What is a full moon

“The full moon is the only lunar phase during which a lunar eclipse can sometimes be observed. But because the Moon’s orbit around the Earth has a different inclination than the Earth’s orbit around the Sun, the Moon usually passes above or below the Earth’s shadow. That’s why a lunar eclipse doesn’t happen every full moon,” he states Wikipedia.

Negative influence of the full moon

It is obvious that the phases of the moon affect our lives. Many people can’t fall asleep, they sleep less and worse when the Moon is at its biggest. Our biological clocks apparently still influence the lives of our ancient ancestors.

“Some medical studies do not rule out that the quality of human sleep is also affected by the lunar cycle itself, which causes brain activity indicating the quality of deep sleep to decrease by up to thirty percent during a full moon. A similar effect was also demonstrated in children whose sleep during the full moon was approximately 5 minutes shorter than during the new moon,” he described Pavel Gabzdylwho deals with the Moon in detail in his publications.

There are also informal full moon names for each month. For example, February is called the Snow Month, June is the Strawberry Month, and November is the Beaver Month.

What is a supermoon?

“A supermoon is not an astronomical term. The term was first used by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979. A supermoon was defined as a new or full moon that occurs at a distance less than or equal to 90% of its shortest distance from Earth in a given orbit.

Full moon:

The full moon usually rises right after sunset and significantly illuminates the night landscape and sky. During a full moon, the ability to observe stars and other celestial objects is greatly reduced, as the reflected light of the moon outshines the light of most stars,” according to Wikipedia.

A photogenic supermoon

There will be a super full moon in September 2024, as reported by the Astronomical Information Server astro.cz additionally decorated with a partial lunar eclipse.

Aren’t you sleeping? The full moon is probably to blame

“The full moon, which occurs on September 18, 2024 at 4:35 CEST (Central European Summer Time), is special in that the Moon will be close to Earth, making it extremely photogenic. The partial phase starts at 4:13 CEST. The eclipse is small and short. The maximum phase occurs half an hour later, at 4:44 CEST. The partial eclipse will then end at 5:16 a.m. CEST. The size of the maximum phase of 8.5% means that just as many percent of the diameter of the moon’s disk sinks into the Earth’s shadow during an eclipse,” says astro.cz.

Partial lunar eclipse

The partial lunar eclipse that will occur in the early morning hours of September 18, 2024 will be small, but as the website reports astro-news, will be quite observable. In addition, it will be accompanied by good observation conditions and the phenomenon will be beautiful to see with the naked eye.

“During this eclipse, the Moon will only set during the penumbral phase of the eclipse, which is invisible to the eye, so we will see the phenomenon practically throughout its entire course. Before the actual eclipse, we will observe the classic full moon all night, which will also be accompanied by the prominent planet Saturn to the west of the Moon. Only in the early morning hours does the Moon approach the Earth’s penumbra first, and at 2 hours 14 minutes SELČ the penumbral eclipse of the Moon officially begins.

But this moment is not observable with the eyes, so we will have to wait until the Moon approaches the full Earth’s shadow. We will not notice the visible darkening of the Moon from its upper edge until before 4 o’clock in the morning. The moon will look like it’s shrouded in black smoke from above. The maximum phase of the eclipse, when about 8.5 percent of the lunar disk will be “bitten off” from the upper right edge, will occur at 4 hours 44 minutes. We will find the moon within the Czech-Slovak territory at a height of about 15° above the west-southwest horizon,” the astro-news website describes.
