The Fantasy Filmfest White Nights are in the starting blocks – and as the festival’s media partner, you will be the first to find out about all the titles in the program exclusively from us! We have already introduced you to five of the ten genre titles that the 2024 edition of White Nights will present in seven German cities, including the late sequel to a horror hit with “Game Of Thrones” star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and a grotesque beaver fight.
You can find detailed information and trailers for “Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever”, “Hundreds Of Beavers”, “Amelia’s Children” and “Red Rooms” here, and in another article, FILMSTARTS editor-in-chief Christoph Petersen has already told you the truly merciless horror film. Highlight “When Evil Lurks” recommended. And now the complete program is finally set – we’re introducing you to the five exciting new additions:
Neuer Film Nr. 1: “Daaaaaali!”
If there’s anyone you can’t miss at the Fantasy Film Festival events, it’s Quentin Dupieux. The eccentric filmmaker has already unleashed murderous car tires (“Rubber”) and superheroes of a slightly different kind fighting against a turtle (“Smoking Causes Coughing”) on us. In “Daaaaaali!”, Dupieux takes a look at the life of the eponymous Surrealist artist – only with a few more “a”s and Dalís (each “a” in the title stands for a different Salvador Dalí, after all, we’re with Dupieux here! ) and of course not at all as a dry biopic.
Neuer Film Nr. 2: “Dream Scenario”
Is Nicolas Cage your nightmare? For the people in “Dream Scenario” he definitely is – the cult star plays Professor Paul Matthews, who appears more and more often in the dreams of those around him, which soon earns him celebrity status. In most dreams he is passive, but not in the nightmarishes of Molly (Dylan Gelula), who works at an influencer agency… You can find out why and how exactly Nicolas Cage ends up becoming a living nightmare in the Hollywood debut of Norwegian director Kristoffer Borgli (“Sick Of Myself”).
Neuer Film Nr. 3: “Alienoid: The Return To The Future”
Just last year, the South Korean sci-fi action film “Alienoid” was shown at the Fantasy Film Festival. With “Alienoid 2: The Return To The Future”, the sequel is on the program for White Nights 2024: Once again, fans can expect a wild genre mix between high-tech and the Middle Ages, which revolves around aliens, time travel, a magical sword and ultimately revolves around the fight for the continued existence of humanity.
Neuer Film Nr. 4: “I’ll Crush Y’All (Os Reviento)”
There’s plenty of action in the one-man army thriller “I’ll Crush Y’All (Os Reviento)”, which begins with a very genre-typical motif: Gabriel (Mario Mayo) wants to leave his violent past behind him and lives in seclusion a quiet life in the countryside, where he looks after his 90-year-old father Tino (Antonio Mayans) and his German Shepherd. But as these things usually go, at some point his peace is disturbed by the ghosts of his past, and Gabriel has to let his fists fly again…
Neuer Film Nr. 5: “The Last Stop in Yuma County”
It’s not just fans of the Coen brothers who should definitely take a look here: When “The Last Stop In Yuma County” celebrated its world premiere at the Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, the critics were overflowing with praise for the western enriched with black humor -Thriller. Francis Galluppi’s feature film debut is about the chance encounter between a knife salesman (Jim Cummings) and two fugitive bank robbers, and the setting – a remote rest stop in the middle of the desert – suggests that we’re dealing with tough genre fare here get to do…
