The Ukrainian supplier of cable harnesses for Škoda Auto resumed production this week. Due to the loss of production caused by the war, the production of the electric model Enyaq stopped and the same threatened the models Scala and Kamiq. Karsten Schnake, a member of the Board of Directors for Purchasing, informed about the resumption of production at the Škoda press conference.

According to Schnake, the production of Enyaq will start one or two weeks after the cable harnesses arrive. The production of the Enyaq Coupé model, which the carmaker wanted to start offering in the first half of this year, should also follow.

“Production at the Ukrainian supplier resumed this week, of course to ensure employee safety. At the same time, we decided to double production in case something went wrong. From week 16, we will still use an alternative supplier,” Schnake said. Škoda has so far delivered around 45,000 Enyaq cars to its customers, but since its introduction it has already registered orders for 115,000 cars.

Due to the war in Ukraine, Škoda also recently stopped all activities, including the production of its models at the Russian plants in Kaluga and Nizhny Novgorod. Last year, the carmaker sold 90,400 cars in Russia.
According to Martin Jahn, a member of the Board of Directors for the sale, Škoda is also working closely with the Ministry of Industry and other ministries to find a suitable location for the battery gigas under consideration for the Volkswagen Group, and a government incentive package is being finalized. “But the final decision will be at the level of the VW Group,” Jahn said, adding that other countries are also at stake.
