Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Orthodox on Easter on Sunday, stressing that “Ukraine is right, people and God.”
Addressing the people from Kiev’s Sophia Cathedral, he pointed out that Easter is a celebration of the victory of life over death, the victory of good over evil and the victory of light over darkness.
Ukraine prays to God for only one thing – peace and prosperity, the president said, calling on all its citizens to protect themselves, their loved ones and Ukraine.
He mentioned those who are defending the country on this day, as well as doctors, volunteers, rescue workers and especially mothers who are waiting for their sons or daughters from the front and also those who will not be waiting for them.
“On this bright day, most of us are not clothed in bright garments, but we are fighting for a bright idea and we are on the side of light. On our side are righteous people, God and the highest light of heaven. Christ is risen! Truly be risen!” Zelensky said in his Easter address.
