The Ukrainian parliament has extended the state of war declared in the country

The Ukrainian parliament extended the state of war declared in the country on Sunday, August 23, said Yaroslav Zheleznak, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada.

The decision to extend the state of war by 90 days was supported by 320 deputies, he informed.

It has already been reported that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky recently submitted bills to the parliament with a proposal to extend the term of martial law and general mobilization by 90 days.

The current term of martial law is valid until May 25.

August 23 is the eve of Ukraine’s Independence Day.

Zelensky declared a state of war for the first time on February 24, after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and it was initially in force until March 26. Later, the state of war was extended twice for 30 days – first until April 25, and then until May 25.

A general mobilization was also announced by a presidential decree in Ukraine on 24 February. Its term was also extended several times.

Experts believe that the planned duration of the state of war is a good indicator of the government’s forecasts for how long the hostilities will continue.
