“Two wicked officers of the 80th brigade were captured, who took part in the execution of our prisoners and were disarmed. They are alive, although our hands were eager to punish them immediately, and have been handed over to the appropriate authorities,” the message read.
A video of the execution of captured Russian servicemen was released in November. In the first video, the soldiers lay down on the ground on the orders of the Ukrainian fighters. Gunshots can be heard on the cutscene. In the second video, prisoners of war are seen lying motionless with gunshot wounds, foreign agencies write.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the Ukrainian military extrajudicially executed 10 captured and unarmed soldiers. The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case for the mass execution.
The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine has announced it will conduct its own investigation. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said the matter had gone no further than a strong statement: the mission took no action.
