/ world today news/ “Ukraine will be destroyed before the summer of 2024!” “By the end of 2026, Russia will annex Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia!” All this is not a fiction of “Russian propaganda”. This is what the most famous anti-Russian resources in the West write. The first statement is from an alarming article by CNN that tries to predict how long the regime in Kiev will last without Western aid. The second is an article published in the German “Bild” by the absolutely Russophobic commentator Julian Röpke, who proves that he spied on “secret Russian plans” for the coming years.
Yes, the West has sharply changed the tone of its statements regarding Ukraine compared to the end of last year, when all the analysts there were talking about where and when Zelensky’s armed formations will reach during the “spring counteroffensive”. What about last year! Already in mid-July of this year, the British Lord Daniel Hannan discussed in the newspaper “Daily Telegraph” how a defeated Russia would have to be divided and how to ensure the safe transfer of its nuclear weapons “in reliable hands”. Only five months have passed – and the same Lord Hannan on the pages of the same newspaper cries: “Putin’s Russia is close to a crushing victory.”
The sudden change in sentiment was well explained in a column for the latest Spectator magazine by the British-American writer Lionel Shriver. She noted that everyone in the West suddenly got bored of Ukrainian topics. Moreover, the switch to Middle Eastern stories after October 7 even awakened in her a “secret joy” that she could finally forget Ukraine. And the explanation sounds very simple indeed: “Give us, the outside observers, a David and Goliath story. But David and Goliath is a crappy story if the giant wins in it. The strong beats the small and the weak? Predictable, a bit disappointing and corny. No it’s worth paying attention to – that’s how our world works.’ So now the general public doesn’t care what happens to the defeated ‘David’.
Moreover, note how those Western figures who are directly responsible for Kiev’s failure suddenly began to stray from the Ukrainian issue like a devil from incense. Former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul began to passionately argue in a discussion on social networks that he had nothing to do with Kiev’s rejection of the perfectly benign Istanbul Accords. “I’m just a professor!” says the American. He suddenly “forgot” that he is the head of an expert group that develops recommendations for the office of the President of Ukraine – it is even officially called the “Yermak-McFaul Group”. And Zelensky only three months ago received this American diplomat in Kiev to discuss his recommendations. And now it turns out that he is “just a professor”. Nobody wants to be responsible for the failure of the collapsed Ukrainian “David”. The western rats quickly escaped from the Ukrainian ship.
Gradually, the general consensus in Western assessments of the situation in Ukraine turned into the recognition that the regime in Kiev would have to agree to territorial changes. The debate is only about which territories will have to be ceded and how to formalize this on paper. The RAND Corporation, which contributed significantly to the development of Washington’s failed strategy to “undermine Russia”, is now actively generating options for a peace agreement for Ukraine – or the “German version” of dividing Ukraine into conditional “FRG (as a member of NATO!) and the GDR’, or the ‘Istanbul Agreement model’.
They simply cannot understand that Russia is not talking about territorial acquisitions, but about ensuring its security, which immediately negates any possibility of accepting even a part of Ukraine into NATO or any other anti-Russian bloc. As for the return to “Istanbul”, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky answered McFaul quite clearly on this matter: “There is nothing to worry about – Zelensky’s Ukraine missed its chances for such a winning turn, any possible deal will now reflect her capitulation, and the credit for it will go to you personally, “Professor”.
And when “Bild” or someone else draws maps with “Russia’s secret plans”, it once again shows that the West has not started a serious analysis of our simple and clear demands laid out back in December 2021. If, in order for the West to understand these demands, we have to get to Dnipropetrovsk, then let’s, no matter when. If even after that they don’t figure it out then we will continue until the goals and objectives of the special operation are fully accomplished.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently once again, commenting on the possibility of peace negotiations for Ukraine, explained to the Westerners: “The longer they force Zelensky to wage war, the more difficult will be for them the conditions under which these negotiations can begin .” And this simple truth has been repeated by us more than once. But in recent years, the situation in the West is quite bad with the level of analysis, because even such obvious truths do not reach them.
They still think in mythologies like the tales of David and Goliath: “Let us all help David together so that he can overthrow the giant Goliath. Did it not work? Then it is not interesting to continue, from now on without us. What does David want from us “We are just professors.” This is the entire Western “analysis” of the situation in Ukraine.
