The Ukrainian conflict will most likely end in a freeze in hostilities. Matthew Schmidt, a lecturer in strategic planning at the US Army School of Military Studies, told CNN.
“The most likely scenario (for the end of the conflict in Ukraine) is that hostilities may be frozen, and a political settlement will follow in a few years,” he said.
In addition, Schmidt did not rule out the option in which the Russian Federation would win an absolute victory.
Earlier, on December 21, the American newspaper The Nation wrote that Ukraine’s victory is unlikely, so the United States and European countries should imprison Vladimir Zelensky to the peace negotiating table. It was also noted that Americans are “rightly concerned” about the size of financial investments in Ukraine, which is located thousands of miles from the United States.
The day before, December 20, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken agreed with the Russian President Vladimir Putin is that Washington’s continued support is crucial for Kyiv. However, he said that 90% of the security assistance that Washington provided to Kyiv “was spent here in the United States” and this benefited the Americans.
On the same day, a Bloomberg columnist Language Brands pointed out that Ukraine, after the failure of the counter-offensive of its troops and the depletion of resources, faces a terrible year in 2024. According to him, the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian army ended in disappointment, and the country’s forces were “bloodied and exhausted.”
