KIEV – Ukraine’s Deputy Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Sergey Nayev says Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to take over Kiev.

Russian troops withdrew from Kiev and other parts of northern Ukraine in late March after weeks of fighting around the capital.

The Russian Defense Ministry at the time said the withdrawal was a gesture of goodwill amid ongoing peace negotiations between Moscow and Kiev.

Negotiations failed and fighting resumed in southern Ukraine and Donbass. Last month Putin ordered a partial mobilization with the aim of calling 300,000 reservists to intensify military operations in the neighboring country.
