The province of Kherson is a strategic strategic point connecting the Ukrainian peninsula of Krm (Crimea), which was forcibly annexed by Russia in 2014, and the eastern Donbas (regions including the provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk) controlled by land by the pro-Russian separatists.
Last month, the Russian government annexed the region along with members from Donetsk, Luhansk and Zaporiza.
On the 10th, the Russian Defense Ministry declared that the evacuation of troops from the Kherson area was underway.
