Air Force speaker Yuri Ignat confirmed the fact that countries bordering Ukraine could defend themselves from the Russian Federation with the help of air defense.
Yanina Sokolova asked Yuri Ignat if Poland has the opportunity to protect the air defense of not only itself, but also western Ukraine, then why doesn’t it do this. The answer of the Ukrainian Armed Forces colonel was laconic and honest: “They could, but they are in collective security, they are in NATO, where there are relevant articles that prohibit doing this.”

A Ukrainian Air Force speaker expressed his opinion on why Poland is not trying to defend itself from Russian air targets: “They can defend their country, but they also flew through the territory of Romania and fell there. Of course, we certainly have a message to our partners. The Poles even flew fighter jets recently. They must, of course, do this – at least defend their territory.”.
“They have the means to do this, and they could, but sometimes, when it flies through the territory of Moldova, it touches Romania a little, and we don’t even always receive information that this happened.”– added Yuri Ignat.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces colonel also noted: “I think that these issues are being resolved at the diplomatic level. We need one thing from them – cooperation at different levels (diplomatic level, military-technical, humanitarian and economic). We are at war, we cannot prolong the war with Russia. We need money, we need weapons, we need international support on different platforms“.
