The Ukrainian side is grateful to the National Assembly and the Government of Bulgaria for the adopted decisions on military-technical, military and defense assistance. Every type of weaponry and equipment means more people saved. Olesya Ilashchuk, the Ukrainian ambassador to our country, stated this in an interview for bTV.
However, according to her, the current level of arms supplies to Ukraine from the West and the dynamics are not enough for Russia to be expelled. New mechanisms and new logistical solutions are needed.
Ukraine needs the following military equipment – weapons, ammunition, air defense equipment and aircraft. The ambassador said that nearly 6 million Ukrainians have returned to Ukraine, from those who fled after the start of the war.
She explained that the Ukrainian-Bulgarian political dialogue is developing actively and dynamically. Ukraine and the Ukrainian people appreciate the political, military and humanitarian assistance from Bulgaria.
The situation at the front is not deadlocked, but complex and, like any complex task, requires proactive solutions. Active hostilities are taking place in Ukraine – more than 1,000 km along their land border, Ilashchuk pointed out. Ukraine is working for the de-occupation of Ukrainian territory and the establishment of lasting peace in Europe. In 2022, Ukraine liberated about 50% of the occupied territories from the Russian conquerors. Ukraine lived and flourished in peace and understanding until Russia seized Crimea in 2014, the ambassador pointed out.
Every Ukrainian understands that the only option for ending the war is victory for Ukraine. Otherwise, everything means death and destruction – no Ukrainian believes in hybrid peace negotiations and talks with Russia, Ilashchuk was categorical.
She added that Ukraine is also grateful to Bulgaria for starting talks on the Ukrainian state’s membership in the EU. “Without Ukraine, Europe would be left alone against Russian terrorism,” said the diplomat.
