The UK is considering participating in a new ‘club of nations»European Union of a political nature next month. The first meeting of the “European Political Community” will be held in Prague on October 6. However, Downing Street wants to see more details on the summit before British Prime Minister Liz Truss commits to attend.
The ‘European Political Community’ was proposed by French President Emmanuelle Macron, last May as a “new space” for cooperation. Intends to establish a Forum which goes beyond the 27 EU Member States, so they are too guests United Kingdom, Ukraine, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Similar ideas have been advanced for decades, but this is the first big push for such a forum since Brexit.
However, there are indications that, before answering, Britain wants to consult the government of Ukraineas well as the defensive military alliance, the I WILL TAKE. British officials are also believed to be looking warranty that the meeting will not be too dominated by the countries or institutions of the EU.
The energy crisis could lead Truss to accept
The Czech Republic currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Council. This is why the inaugural meeting of the “European Political Community” is scheduled in Prague. A agenda provisional suggests that discussions will focus on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the European economy and the energy crisis. Furthermore, Macron suggested that the group could discuss the safetyenergy and transport, as well as the movement of people, especially young people.
Some diplomats Europeans consider Britain to join the debate indispensable. They are confident that the gloomy economic outlook and the energy crisis bring the British Prime Minister to the table. However, it is also feared that he will reject the offer well in order not to antagonize some Eurosceptics conservatives or due to a calendar problem, since the summit it will be held just one day after the Conservative Party conference.
