LONDON (ANTARA) – On Monday (17/10) the Chief Veterinary Health Officers of England, Scotland and Wales announced avian influenza prevention zones across the UK due to the increase in avian influenza cases in wild poultry and commercial.
From noon on Monday there was a legal requirement for all bird keepers in the UK to follow strict biosecurity measures, including keeping the birds in the wild but in enclosed areas, the UK government said.
Other measures include keepers with more than 500 birds who must restrict unauthorized access to their premises.
They are also required to change clothes and footwear before entering the chicken coop and regularly clean and disinfect vehicles on site.
The UK is facing its largest avian flu outbreak with 190 confirmed cases since late October 2021, with over 30 confirmed cases since early October last year, the government said.
