“The UK has more to lose than the EU if there is no deal”

Do you see an agreement likely in the next few days?

Both parties have a great interest in reaching an agreement, especially the United Kingdom, as its economy depends so much on trade within and with the EU. But economic rationale was never strong as part of the UK’s Brexit strategy, so it remains to be seen whether London will accept EU terms.

Would the British people support the Government if an agreement is not reached with the EU?

Initially, the argument will be all about sovereignty, and a large part of the Brexiters will come in support of the Government. But as soon as reality comes home then it can be completely different.

Do you think Brussels will give in on key issues? And the United Kingdom?

The UK has more incentives to commit to conditions that are well known in advance. I am not sure why the EU would need to compromise.

Polls indicate that secessionists in Scotland would win a second referendum. Why is that so, and how could Johnson prevent the disintegration of the country?

Scotland is a problem, but now there is no talk of Westminster allowing it to hold a referendum, so the question of Scottish independence is more theoretical than a real threat in the UK.

Who will lose the most if there is no deal?

The UK definitely has the most to lose.
