The 17-year-old Chinese Crested Hooded Dog won the competition with nine other competitors.
The champion was adopted last year, during the pandemic, by 41-year-old musician Geneda Benali from Arizona.
She said she was offered an elderly dog with health problems at the shelter. “The staff tried to prepare me for what I would see. I saw a creature that was really old, needed a second chance and was loved,” said the proud owner.
The veterinarian warned her that due to her health, the animal would probably only live a few more weeks.
But his mother’s love, tenderness and kisses helped him overcome the problems, Benali added.
Happy Face’s favorite pastimes are sleeping, snoring and making strange noises when he’s happy, she said.
This world-renowned event honors the imperfections that make all dogs so special and unique, organizers said.
