DUBAI, 31 August / WAM / The UAE Swimming Team will participate in the 19th edition of the Asian Games “Hangzhou 2022” with 4 swimmers.
The selected swimmers are 3 swimmers, Mahra Al-Shehhi, Meera Al-Shehhi and Maha Al-Shehhi, and swimmer Omar Al-Hammadi.
Marwan Al-Hatawi, coach of the swimming team, explained that the federation selected a group of male and female swimmers, who were involved in a continuous preparation program, which includes many tournaments within the International Swimming Federation (FINA) agenda, in addition to the various local tournaments.
He explained that the appropriate group of swimmers is chosen to participate in each sporting event that comes at its due date, and therefore 4 swimmers were selected to participate in the Asian Games, including 3 swimmers, in line with the interest in the participation of the female component in Emirati sports.
He confirmed that Youssef Al Matroushi, a swimmer for the UAE national team, could not participate in “Hangzhou 2022” due to his commitment to the “elite” program, which includes a prior list of tournaments and sporting events in which he participates, leading to the “Paris Olympics 2024”, while his colleague Salem Ghaleb performs national service.
He said that Al-Matroushi Shaterk participated in the last world championship in Japan, after an intensive preparation program that lasted for 6 months, after which he received a passive rest from training and participation, after which he prepares to participate in the World Championship in Qatar next February.
He added: We hope to achieve good results in the Asian Games, which enjoy high levels of competition, in light of the participation of elite swimmers from the continent, but we seek to benefit from this forum and build on what we have reached, especially since swimming is one of the sports that requires extensive and long preparation. term.
