The UAE reinforces its relief supplies to Syria with an “air bridge”

On Monday, the UAE announced the operation of an air bridge of 8 planes, 4 of them to Lattakia and 4 to Damascus, as part of strengthening its relief supplies to Syria.

On Sunday, the UAE announced that it would fly 37 cargo planes carrying food and medical supplies and shelter tents for those affected by the earthquakes in Syria and Turkey, over a period of 7 days, as part of Operation “The Gallant Knight 2”.

Work is also underway to construct a mobile field hospital and open it in a “reformatory” area in Turkey, to receive the injured and provide them with medical care, according to the “WAM” agency.

On Monday, the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, visited the Syrian capital, Damascus, where he met Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to discuss the humanitarian repercussions of the earthquake.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed also visited the areas affected by the devastating earthquake, northwestern Syria.

On a related note, the UAE search and rescue teams are continuing their efforts to rescue those trapped under the rubble through devices and equipment.

As part of Operation “The Gallant Knight 2”, the Emirati search and rescue team succeeded in rescuing two people who spent about 120 hours in the rubble, in the aftermath of the earthquake that struck Turkey.

According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the first is an 11-year-old child, and the second is a man between the ages of 50 and 60, both of Turkish nationality.

The Emirati team continues its relief work in Turkey, searching for survivors under the rubble, as part of its efforts to mitigate the effects of the devastating earthquake, and is distributed over 3 areas, which are the most difficult in Kahramanmaraş.

The Joint Operations Command of the UAE Ministry of Defense had recently announced that search and rescue teams had succeeded in rescuing a family consisting of a mother, a son, and two daughters of Syrian nationality from under the rubble, after their home collapsed in the wake of the Turkish earthquake.
