Exclusive translation: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved an injection that treats eczema within 10 days.
A five-year-old girl whose severe eczema could not sleep at night and was itchy enough to bleed, saw her recovery in just 10 days after receiving new treatment. According to the Daily Mail.
Last year, the girl was recruited into a clinical trial of the monoclonal antibody drug dupilumab – sold under the brand name Dupixent – and received monthly injections that doctors hope will help calm her immune system.
Arya was one of 162 preschool-aged children recruited for the trial that led to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of the drug for children aged six months to five years with moderate or severe eczema early in this year. The results showed that half of the children who received the drug saw their symptoms decreased by 75% or more.
It was approved for older age groups last year and is available in the UK for those over 6 years of age.
Doctors say the drug costs about $ 2,500 per month, but about two-thirds of those with employer-backed insurance plans will be able to get it for under $ 100 per month, according to manufacturer Regeneron, while a program – called MyWay – to help cover costs for underserved families. An independent review committee said this was a “fair price”.
