Dr. Sherif Mokhtar, Professor of Cardiology and pioneer of intensive care at Qasr Al-Ainy, said there are many factors that can cause chest pain, continuing: “It could come from the muscles between the ribs, from the esophagus, trachea , and the surrounding pericardial membrane, the heart, and the pleural membrane surrounding the lungs.
Mokhtar added, during a live broadcast on the “Consultation” website, that the factors that can cause chest pain are different, but each has special specifics and each can be identified through the patient’s family history.

The cardiology professor added that the two approaches differ from chest pain, whereby some patients complain of a feeling of wheezing, which is called “sighing”, especially in light of the fact that it is repeated more than once, adding: “This can cause chest pain. The chest, because the chest muscles are not used to this exhausting effort, which makes the patient suspect that this is due to a heart problem, especially in light of suffering from dizziness due to excessive sighing, which leads to a lack of blood that reaches the brain …

Mokhtar pointed out that chest pain can come from the digestive system, due to the vagus nerve that exits from the bottom of the brain and feeds many organs of the body, such as the stomach, esophagus, pleural membrane and gallbladder, and that any pain in this area can cause heart pain.
