The Mayor of Algeciras, José Ignacio Landaluce, together with the Councilor for Parks and Gardens, Ángel Martínez, has visited the recently remodeled “Twin Roundabouts” of San José Artesano.
They have also been accompanied by the Deputy Mayor delegates for Urban Mobility, Javier Rodríguez Ros, and for Housing, Paula Conesa; as well as the delegate councilors of Citizen Participation, Jorge Juliá, and of Youth, Francisco Arango.
The first mayor has assured that “the improvement, cleaning and beautification of these roundabouts so loved by the neighborhood, is nothing more than the starting signal for a large number of improvement projects that are going to reach San José Artesano”, as he has mentioned that the cleaning and improvement of the dog park that is in that same intersection has already been carried out; work is being done on the remodeling of the roundabout in front of the Torre Almirante Institute, where a ceiba tree has been planted, after which action will be taken on the median that goes from it to the roundabout located in front of the Athletics Tracks; a project for the urban regeneration of Spain and Belgium avenues will soon begin, as well as other traffic calming actions; Actions will also be carried out to reorganize the pedestrian accesses to La Concha beach and the improvement of connections with San José Artesano, within the “La playa de mi barrio” project; and the grant has already been requested for a large rehabilitation project for several residential buildings in San José Artesano.
For his part, Martínez explained that “our objective was to provide these roundabouts with a new ornamentation, for which the elements that constituted them have been removed, their reconstruction, the painting of the structures, the planting of two hundred-year-old olive trees and other ornamental plants, as well as a new drip irrigation system and LED-type decorative lighting” and clarified that “this action is part of the projects launched by the Parks and Gardens Delegation to continue improving all the green spaces of our city”.
Regarding the rehabilitation of the houses, Conesa recalled that “in the month of May, the delegations of Housing, Urban Planning and Citizen Participation met with the Neighborhood Association of San José Artesano to inform them of the possibility of taking advantage of the Areas of Comprehensive Rehabilitation (ARI), within the Integrated Territorial Investment 2014-2020 (ITI) of Cádiz, and we have the pleasant news that they have already done so” and added that “thanks to this plan, which would be carried out in several blocks of homes in the neighborhood, the infrastructure of the buildings can be comprehensively improved, with energy efficiency as the key to promoting the development of common areas: elevators, photovoltaic panels, exterior insulation and others”.
