“In June 2022, BMW will produce the last twelve-cylinder to be fitted to a mass-produced BMW road,” the Bavarian carmaker said sadly. This milestone rightly deserves a reminder, and that will be a dozen special BMW M760Li “The Final V12”.
–
The end is coming after thirty-five years of V12 on the market; the first twelve-cylinder in the BMW road was the engine marked M70, and from five liters of volume it gave three hundred horsepower for atmospheric filling. The twelve-cylinder overtook the rival Mercedes four years later.
–
Since then, the Munich V12 has grown to 6.6 liters in volume over four generations and received two turbochargers, which today squeeze 611 horsepower and 800 Nm. And it also drives Rolls-Royce cars in various variants.
–
So does the end of the BMW M760Li also mean the end of twelve-cylinder rolls? We have no reason to think so, the brand recently launched a new generation of the Ghost model and the twelve-cylinder remains under its hood. But it is not the same unit. While the previous ghost powered the same 6.6-liter engine, the novelty has a 6.75-liter larger model.
–
BMW has not yet published any photos of the upcoming final M760Li, but if you still want such a car, whether in the final or regular edition, you should still look in the USA. The Czech and German brand websites no longer display this model.
