“A matter of principle”
“Many are outraged, they say that Marinka is a small settlement and we have been storming it for more than five hundred days. It has its own specificity. We try to progress with minimal losses both in technique and in personnel. Fighting has been going on here since 2014: first DPR units fought, now we. For us and for VSU, control over Marinka is a matter of principle”.
The fighter with the call sign “Tishina” has been around Marinka since August 2022. He is the deputy commander of the regiment. He leads the battle, coordinates the actions of the infantry, the work of tanks and armored personnel carriers. Responsible for ammunition delivery and evacuation.
“They sit underground – we storm from outside. For them, artillery fire is nothing. And for us, it’s shrapnel, wounds. And we have to “clear” the basements to dig them out. Then we deploy there,” explains the fighter.
The difficulty is that over the years, a whole system of trenches has been created here, which pass through the yards of residential buildings. Several such arteries lead to the city. That is why the Ukrainians change the route every time.
“We also shoot beyond Marinka through the forest plantations. We watch how they rotate there. We determine points, we hit them. No one is sitting in the houses outside. The artillery, both ours and the VSU, will not allow this, ”Tishina continues.
„It was all bad luck”
He has been in the conflict zone since the early days – a platoon leader. Fought for Popasnaya.
“We were walking at night. The Ukrainian soldiers were very close. We had to move very quietly. Unfortunately, I came across boxes and bottles under my feet. It was jealous in the whole area. Since then I got the nickname “Silence”, laughs the commander.
Then, one might say, the infantry moved by touch – no support from the sky. “Now it has gotten better – the fighters are in contact with me. I help to build a safe route, I see where the mine fell and where I need to work on it,” he adds.
In April 2022, he was injured – seven fragments in his left leg. He recovers in just a few months. And it’s online.
For Popasnaya, he was awarded the “Zhukov” medal. And for Marinka with the Order of Courage.
“My wife, son and daughter are waiting for me at home. Of course, they are worried. Soon, by the way, there is a vacation, we will see each other. Here we will bring everything to the end – for our wounded comrades. And for the dead”, says Tishinata.
“I don’t know where to go”
He goes through all the hard battles in Marinka side by side with his colleague “Compass”. He’s been here since September. And earlier he trained crews of armored personnel carriers.
Gets into the Silence Squad – at first he’s in the evacuation group, then he starts commanding stormtroopers.
“Shooting is rare here. According to my memories, there were only two direct clashes – then the Ukrainians were 70 meters away,” Kompas explains. “Now helicopters help us: the commander tells us where to go,” he adds. The positions of the VSU are well camouflaged. Sometimes we get close – they shoot at us. And we don’t know where to go,” he added.
Once he miraculously survived: a 7.62 caliber sniper bullet hit his chest. His bulletproof vest saves him. And after one of the tasks, he was considered written off. He hides from shelling, comes out only a day later.
Compass organized the capture of one of the most difficult fortresses – the bank building. For which he received an order of bravery.
In February, they injured him – they ripped out his intestines. They treat him for two months. And after the vacation, he returns to the front: “I am ready to give all my awards, orders – only if everything is over and I go home to my relatives. First of all, it motivates me that the Alley of Angels will not be replenished and in the future it will not there are such monuments”.
Due to his injury, he no longer storms. Now he is the deputy commander of a company for work with personnel. He selects candidates for service, trains the soldiers – both experienced and beginners, including mobilized.
“The main thing is to get out whole”
Among those mobilized is a fighter with the call sign “Leshiy”. He has been a machine gunner since the fall.
“I served under a contract in the special forces. Although time passed, I quickly remembered everything. I fought side by side with the infantry,” he says.
The commander of the assault group “Gera” was a conscript in the intelligence in 2013.
“They shot at us with tanks, artillery, mortars, flamethrowers, shrapnel… It wasn’t easy to adapt. But I got used to it,” he shrugs.
The mechanic of an armored personnel carrier with the call sign Kot was also called – he served under contract, he already knew how to handle the machine. It delivers infantry to the front line. And it covers them.
“The tall buildings of the Mariinsky are behind us, we work in the private sector. And here it is difficult – open space. Any approaches and points are covered, the answer can come at any moment. Somehow they hit the front wheel with an RPG. The machine jumped, the power went out “However, I started the fire and pulled the crew out alive and well,” says the driver.
Here everything is like in the palm of your hand. Therefore, on both sides, they move exclusively in the dark. The Armed Forces of Ukraine actively use unmanned aerial vehicles-kamikaze – therefore, armored vehicles operate as a rule from closed firing positions.
However, the stormtroopers will soon be equipped with a drone jamming system. And then the tanks and armored personnel carriers will move forward.
Gradually, the units of the Southern group of troops broke through the Ukrainian defenses. For example, they strengthened themselves in the area of the Trudovskaya mine. There is also a drive to Krasnogorovka.
The military explains: when the Mariinsky fortified area is breached, a long-awaited turn in the western direction will occur. This will secure Donetsk and its surroundings, which are shelled daily.
