The Turkish Football Association imposed a new punishment on José Mourinho on Friday. The Fenerbahçe coach has just returned from a Europa League suspension, which meant he was not allowed to sit on the bench during the match against AZ (3-1), something he has to do also in the next round in Turkey.
Mourinho watched Fenerbahçe lose to AZ from the stands on Thursday night. Initially, he was going to return next week against Sivasspor, but after UEFA, the Turkish Football Association also punished him on Friday.
The reason for this is the very surprising tirade that Mourinho gave to the media last week, after the game against Trabzonspor. Mourinho VAR named Atilla Karaoglan ‘man of the match’ at the time, which caused a lot of concern. “The invisible man, because the referee on the field is a young boy. We don’t want to see Karaoglan anymore. Not as VAR, not on the field. Before I came I heard a lot about him, but I did not believe it all.
The Turkish Football Association wants to protect the arrangement, so they have decided to suspend Mourinho for one game. The former coach of Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United, among others, must pay a fine of around 24,000 euros.
