Muzafer Kayasan holds the record for the longest period with COVID-19 in Turkey. A 56-year-old man has tested positive for the disease 78 times since 2020. he is looking for a way out of a situation that has locked him in his home and hospitals for 14 months.
Kayasan is a patient with leukemia. He was first diagnosed with COVID-19 in November 2020. and he was hospitalized. He was then discharged from the hospital after a short period of treatment as his illness became easier. He returned to his home in Istanbul’s Sarier district, expecting a full recovery. To his surprise, after that he conducted 78 tests, to which the result for COVID-19 was subjected each time. Since then, he has spent nine months in hospital and another five months at home in self-isolation.
The man turned to the authorities with a request to find a solution to his situation, which forced him to spend some days at home. He sees his children and grandchildren only from a distance.
Doctors explain his condition and positive tests by his weakened leukemia immune system.
Kayasan told the Ihlas Haber Agency (IHA) that he survived with the help of medications prescribed to him to maintain his immune system.
His wife and his wife had been with him for a while during his self-isolation period, but both had negative tests for COVID-19.
“I have recovered, but I still have remnants of COVID-19 in my body. This is the only explanation for the positive tests“” he added.
Kayasan says that COVID – 19 put an end to his social life. “I don’t feel any health problems, but it’s hard for me because I can’t touch my loved ones. I can’t get vaccinated because of my condition”” he complained.
