The Daniel K. Inouye solar telescope, installed in Hawaii, in the United States, revealed unprecedented detailed images of the sun’s turbulent surface, which is covered by plasma (ionized gas formed at high temperatures).
These are the first images obtained through this new telescope, the largest solar telescope in the world, managed by the National Science Foundation (FNC), an independent federal agency in the United States designed to “promote the progress of science”.
The images show that the plasma covers the entire surface of the Sun and that cell-like structures are the signature of violent movements that carry heat from the interior of the star to its surface, describes the foundation in a statement.
